The college football coaching carousel has already set records this season. A total of 10 coaches were fired before November 1, and 11 have now been fired after Auburn parted ways with Hugh Freeze this past weekend. No firing made more headlines than LSU's dismissal of Brian Kelly, and the search is now on to find his replacement.
Frank Wilson is saying all the right things before LSU hopes to upset Alabama
LSU athletic is dealing with a lot of moving parts, as the school is currently without a university president, athletic director, and head football coach. The search for a new head coach is off to a bumpy start, and rumors continune to swirl on social media. One rumor that keeps floating around is a possible reunion with Nick Saban, and Shaquille O'Neal has the Saban to LSU rumors out in full force yet again thanks to his recent comments.
Shaquille O'Neal teases a Nick Saban return to LSU
In an interview with US Weekly, O'Neal said that he's heard "through the grapevine" about a possible Saban to LSU reunion. “I heard through the grapevine that they were having conversations with Nick Saban,” said the famous LSU alum. “That’d be awesome if we can bring Nick back.”
O'Neal doesn't go into further detail, and his claims have to be taken with a grain of salt given Nick Saban's previous comments on the LSU opening. Saban is now in his second season as an ESPN College Football Analyst on CollegeGameDay. He recently appeared on the Pat McAfee Show and said that he is content in his current role. "I want to stay retired.” Saban said. “And I don’t want (agent Jimmy Sexton) anywhere near Miss Terry because when she hears some of these numbers, she gets interested. And I ain’t interested.”
Saban coached the Tigers from 2000-04, leading the program to a National Championship in 2003. He left Baton Rouge with an overall record of 48-16, which included a 28-12 mark in SEC play. Tiger fans would welcome Saban back to LSU with open arms, but given Shaq's lack of specifics and Saban's desire to stay away from the sidelines, a reunion with the GOAT seems to be far-fetched at this point in time.
