The New England Patriots just made one of the best decisions they could make with the 4th overall pick, selecting LSU Left Tackle Will Campbell as the cornerstone of their offensive line.

While the Patriots may be disappointed that they missed out on the “Blue Chip” prospects in Travis Hunter and Abdul Carter, landing Will Campbell is best for the team long term. As a Rookie, quarterback Drake Maye took several massive hits, missing games with a concussion and a hand injury, which signaled the team needed to improve on the offensive line.

Will Campbell now steps in as the cornerstone of the Patriots' offensive line, looking to protect Drake Maye’s blindside for years to come. In landing Maye, the team did the hard part, nailing a top pick at Quarterback, but now it’s all about protecting the investment.

Heading into the 2025 NFL Draft, the Patriots' plans were to start former 6th round pick Vederian Lowe at left tackle. While Lowe could develop into a solid offensive lineman, Will Campbell will be a rock for the Patriots helping keep Drake Maye upright.

This blueprint should look awfully familiar for New England Patriots fans as it's the blueprint their dynasty was built upon. While Tom Brady gets remembered for his dominance under center, he was able to carve opposing defenses behind incredible offensive lines. Offensive tackles like Matt Light and Nate Solder helped keep Brady upright and Will Campbell will now do the same for Drake Maye.

The Patriots now have their offensive line addressed and they can now look to add weapons around Drake Maye. Kayshon Boutte showed a great chemistry with Maye while the team already invested in Stefon Diggs, Ja'Lynn Polk, and Javon Baker as the younger wide receivers will need to take the next step.

As the team now turns its attention to the second round of the NFL Draft, the team can look to add weapons around Drake Maye. This draft class doesn't have a ton of top end wide receivers which should allow the team to pick its spots during the next six rounds.
