The past few weeks, the SEC Network has been running through the best players and plays among other things over the past decade to celebrate the 10 Year Anniversary of the SEC Network. We saw them positively rank LSU when they named Joe Burrow and Jayden Daniels the top two quarterbacks of the decade.

The SEC Network revealed its top ten games of the decade and there was one interesting omission.

Leaving the 2019 matchup between LSU and Alabama comes as a shock given the stakes of the game. It was a matchup of 2 Vs 3 and bias aside LSU was the best team in 2019 but, Alabama was probably the second best team despite missing the playoff.

It's unfathomable to leave the game off of the list, just look at the cast from this game:

  • Heisman's: Joe Burrow and DeVonta Smith
  • First-Round Picks in 2020: Joe Burrow, Tua Tagovailoa, Jedrick Wills, Henry Ruggs III, Jerry Jeudy, K'Lavon Chaisson, Justin Jefferson, Patrick Queen, and Clyde Edwards-Helaire.
  • First-Round Picks in 2021: Ja'Marr Chase, Jaylen Waddle, Patrick Surtain II, DeVonta Smith, Mac Jones, and Najee Harris.
  • Day Two Picks: Grant Delpit, Kristian Fulton, Damien Lewis, Lloyd Cushenberry, Jacob Phillips, Xavier McKinney, Trevon Diggs, Raekwon Davis, Brian Robinson Jr, Terrace Marshall, and Christian Barmore.
  • First-Round Picks in 2022: Derek Stingley Jr and Evan Neal.
  • Notable names on the Coaching Staffs: Nick Saban, Ed Orgeron, Steve Sarkisian, Dave Aranda, Joe Brady, and Mickey Joseph.

It's arguable that we've never seen as much talent on a College Football field in a game ever before and, we may never see that much talent on the field again.

It's not like the game play wasn't dramatic from that game either, as LSU took a massive lead before Alabama stormed back to make the game close. The game also gave us some legendary performances on both sides of the football.

  • Against a defense littered with NFL All-Pro's, Joe Burrow went 31-39 passing for 393 yards and 3 touchdowns.
  • Clyde Edwards-Helaire had an unreal game with 180 yards from scrimmage and four touchdowns in what was the best game of his career.
  • Setting himself up to win the Heisman in 2020, DeVonta Smith went for 213 yards and two touchdowns averaging 30.4 yards per reception.

Thad Moss made one of the most unbelievable catches in College Football which in part popularized the Pylon Cam.

Leaving this game off was a massive miss by the SEC Network

The argument many make as to why they don't watch College Football is because it's sloppy compared to the NFL. You show this game to anyone with the names and talent on the field and its impossible for them to walk away not feeling hooked. This was a clash of two of the biggest names in the sport with the SEC West on the line and many feel this game was the National Championship as no one could come close to either of these teams when healthy.
