A Way Too Early Look at LSU's Potential First Round Draftees in 2025
The LSU Football program was one of the biggest winners of the NFL Draft as it had six players drafted three of which were first-round picks. While the LSU Football team had a dominant draft in 2024 the 2025 draft class may end up better than this past class. The LSU Football team has three players that are projected as first-round picks this early with a pair that may play their way into first-round status.
Will Campbell - Offensive Tackle
The LSU Tigers will be in strong contention to have the first overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft with offensive tackle Will Campbell. Through his first two seasons at LSU Campbell has solidified himself as one of if not the best tackles in the country. Entering the 2024 season, Will Campbell is projected as the first tackle off the board in a majority of the early mock drafts.
If Campbell continues his success through his first two seasons into the 2024 season then there is no doubt he'll be a top ten selection and may even work his way into the top five. The rise in awareness of positional value has made landing a solid left tackle nearly as important as landing a franchise quarterback. Campbell will try to become the highest drafted offensive tackle in program history since George Rice who was selected 12th overall in 1966.
Harold Perkins - Linebacker
While 2023, was a down year for Harold Perkins Jr he was still one of the most dominant linebackers in college football. For Perkins' NFL Draft Stock he'd likely be best suited by returning to edge rusher however, he can best affect the game for LSU by moving around the defense.
The early mock drafts have Harold Perkins as one of the first players coming off the board in 2025's NFL Draft. Perkins will be competing with Travis Hunter, Mykel Williams, Will Johnson, and JT Tuimoloau to be the first defensive player taken.
The LSU Tigers will deploy Harold Perkins back in the middle as he'll play the Will in Blake Baker's defense. This may best prepare Perkins for his NFL future as in the right system he may be deployed in a similar way to how Dan Quinn uses Micah Parsons.
Emery Jones Jr - Offensive Tackle
While Will Campbell will continue to garner buzz as the top tackle in all of college football, Emery Jones may not be that far behind him. Jones will enter the season as one of the most experienced offensive tackles in the country starting 24 games on the right side. His excellent play his led to First-Team All-Freshmen, Freshman All-SEC, and Second-Team All-SEC honors while being named LSU's Offensive Lineman of the Year in 2023 by the coaching staff.
The current projections have Jones going as a late first-round pick however he has the potential of rising up draft boards. Going from a dynamic playmaker in Jayden Daniels who extends plays to Garrett Nussmeier who will look to get passes out quicker will make blocking much easier. Working in Jones' benefit is also the fact that he plays right tackle as many front offices prefer to select right tackles who have played the position rather than asking a left tackle to make the transition.
