In one of the best first halves of basketball all season, the Iowa Hawkeyes and the LSU Tigers were on fire in their Elite Eight game.

The 2023 women’s national championship game rematch.

Kim Mulkey vs. Lisa Bluder.

SEC vs. Big Ten.

Angel Reese vs. Caitlin Clark.

This is the matchup of the NCAA Tournament if not the entire year.

LSU’s star forward Reese was seemingly unstoppable from the tip-off, literally. Not only did she win the tip to earn her Tigers the first possession, but she also went on a scoring streak throughout the first half.

As the two teams headed to their locker rooms, Reese walked off the court with 13 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals, and 2 blocks.

Phew, that’s a mouthful.

LSU and Iowa were tied with 45 apiece after the first 20 minutes, on pace for 90 points each by the end of regulation.

In a game filled with great players, historic coaches, and record-setters on both ends of the court, it was more than fitting for the teams to be tied as they parted ways at halftime.

Throughout the season, Reese has led the Tigers in scoring and rebounding. Currently, she averages 18.7 points, 13.2 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game. In other words, she was well on her way to a season’s best if not career-best performance.

Clark, on the other hand, was also on fire.

The Hawkeyes’ star had 19 points and 5 assists as her team headed to the locker room.
