Brian Kelly praises his teams intangibles in Post Game press conference
The LSU Football team survives leaving South Carolina with a massive victory over the South Carolina Gamecocks. This game wasn't perfect and LSU was a few yards away from seeing this game head to over time as the Gamecocks just hardly missed a field goal to send this game to overtime. While Brian Kelly was red hot during the game, he was much calmer in the post-game press conference where he was really complimentary of his team.
Kelly opened the press conference heaping praise onto his team for their determination and their fight after what was a shaky start.
"So proud of the grit and the perseverance of our football team down 17-0 on the road in the SEC against a veteran football team especially on the defensive side of the ball."
- Brian Kelly
Kelly spoke on how the game was sloppy but, how the execution late in this game was impressive and improved over just two weeks ago.
"It's not perfect by any means, but it's early in the season we've played two really good power four conference opponents and we've had the lead in the fourth quarter twice one we let slip away, and this one we finished off."
- Brian Kelly
Brian Kelly brought up the star of the game his true freshman running back Caden Durham who played a massive role in LSU winning this game. He later do
"We had a freshman come in today in Caden Durham and produced some really important yards for us. Look its the SEC you gotta make people miss you gotta break through tackles that's just the nature of it and he did a great job today."
- Brian Kelly
Coach Kelly was asked about what he saw from Aaron Anderson who led the team with 98 receiving yards filling for Chris Hilton Jr.
"He came up big when we needed him."
- Brian Kelly
Kelly was asked about how his defense played and rather than saying it needed to be better he took a moment to spin it into how much better this team can get.
"We want to be better defensively and a lot of this all of this that you saw today on both sides of the ball, all of it is correctable and all of it can be coached and all of it can be executed. So if we couldn't coach it and it couldn't be executed then we gotta take it out. If its a scheme we can't call that anymore if its a play that we can't run then we gotta take it out. Everything that we did today we have to do better coaching it and we have to do a better job executing it and were capable of doing it. We have to be better and we will be."
- Brian Kelly
Kelly was asked about the Special Teams mistakes starting with the botched extra point attempt which took two points off the board for LSU as they later needed to go for two.
"I don't want to comment on it. We had a bad snap that's clear. He's been so good for the last three years it is the first bad snap he's had in three years its untimely because it could've effected the game."
- Brian Kelly
While he took the blame on the team for the missed extra point, he pointed the blame for the blocked punt on the SEC officials.
"The blocked punt I'm going to take that up with our SEC office we believe it was an illegal block and we voiced our concerns with it but, we'll address it with the SEC officiating crew we believe we have an argument there."
