Bryce Underwood and Harlem Berry defend LSU Football's NIL Approach
Thus far in the NIL era of College Football, Brian Kelly and his staff have done an incredible job recruiting landing top ten recruiting classes every year except for 2022 where they finished 12th. However, after Brian Kelly's comments about "not being in the market of buying players" LSU's NIL program has come under attack.
After saying he wasn't in the market of buying players, LSU landed just two spring transfers Jay'Viar Suggs and Blake Ochsendorf with Gio Paez having previously committed. Dakorien Moore further pushed the narrative when he said that he hadn't seen everything that he needed to with LSU at the On3 Elite Series.
The Nation's top running back recruit and LSU commit Harlem Berry spoke on what he thinks about LSU's NIL Approach saying the following:
"People think that we don't give what people deserve but, really and truly you get what you deserve. You really shouldn't be focused on money."
- Harlem Berry
Bryce Underwood then took a turn to defend LSU's NIL approach saying the following:
"It's mainly about what I'm trying to get to. My main goal is the NFL, first draft pick. Money is going to be the last thing I'm thinking about until getting to the league."
- Bryce Underwood
LSU's Two Top Commits have the right approach
In Harlem Berry and Bryce Underwood, LSU is getting two players with the right mindset when it comes to NIL. For a player like Underwood, a school like LSU is the best choice as two of the last three starting quarterbacks have won Heisman's and went in the first two picks of the NFL Draft. For Harlem Berry, LSU has sent tons of talent at running back to the NFL and playing alongside a player like Underwood will make him an even greater NFL prospect. The Tigers are right to pursue players who want to play for the right reasons rather than being the biggest spender like Jimbo Fisher was.
