Caden Durham continues to prove he's the best running back on LSU
When LSU started its season, Caden Durham was fourth on the depth chart behind the returning Kaleb Jackson, Josh Williams, and John Emery Jr. As LSU has struggled running the football and struggled to create big plays at running back the True Freshman has been a breath of fresh air.
Against South Carolina, Durham flipped the script for the offense as he came in and made defender after defender miss creating a ton of big plays. Then against UCLA, we didn't see much of Durham but, he did come in to score on a 35 yard pitch and catch from Nussmeier.
Brian Kelly and Joe Sloan clearly liked what they saw from Caden Durham as a receiver last week and took note of it. To open this game against South Alabama, the offense called Durham's number starting with a screen to the true freshman.
The play from Durham defined blazing fast as no one on the defense was even close to bringing him down. The player that deserves a ton of credit on that play is Mason Taylor who you truly can't say enough good things about. Taylor took his man and put him on the sideline giving Durham a clear path to the endzone.
On the next play from scrimmage, Caden Durham did it as a runner, going 86 yards before being brought down on the one yard line. Durham has now touched the ball twice accounting for 157 yards and a touchdown.
While Josh Williams is the trusted veteran and Kaleb Jackson may be the best power back on the team, Caden Durham should dominate the touches until someone proves that they're the best running back on the team.
