One of the biggest storylines of day three of the NFL Draft was when LSU Defensive tackle Mekhi Wingo would come off the board. Wingo was ranked as one of the best available prospects the entire day and it seemed like fans were begging their team to draft Wingo all day. The Lions finally made the move selecting Wingo 189th Overall.

After an NFC Championship appearance, the Lions have brought in a hoard of defensive talent taking SEC cornerbacks Terrion Arnold and Ennis Rakestraw Jr as well as Utah Safety Sione Vaki and Wingo.

The Lions are getting a steal in Mekhi Wingo after landing him this late in the draft. During the 2023, season while Wingo's athleticism was behind Maason Smith and Jordan Jefferson, Wingo was the most consistent player. He's shown an ability to rush from different spots on the defensive line while his power and speed will make him an impressive player at the next level.

Wingo will have an opportunity to start while at worst he'll be a rotational piece on a loaded defensive line with Aidan Hutchinson, DJ Reader, and Marcus Davenport.

The Detroit Lions get a motivated player in Mekhi Wingo

In addition to getting one of the most talented defensive linemen in the class, the Lions are getting a player with a chip on his shoulder. Wingo could have easily gone in the second round of the NFL Draft but, after falling to the sixth round of the Draft Wingo will be motivated to prove these teams wrong. This is a great landing spot for Wingo as he joins a young and talented defense while having a chance to start from day one.
