Dylan Crews makes his Major League debut against the New York Yankees
Although he was just drafted a little over a year ago, it feels like tonight was the long-awaited MLB debut of Dylan Crews. This year in the minor leagues, Crews was his typical self with a .270 batting average along with 13 home runs, 68 RBIs, and 25 stolen bases. It was hard to predict that Crews was going to debut this season as the Nationals are far out of the Playoff race as they're 17.5 games out of the division.
It came as a surprise when news broke last week that Crews was getting the call up, beginning his MLB career at Home on Monday night against the New York Yankees.
The debut drew support from the entire LSU Family as Jayden Daniels made a video for Crews while Jay Johnson hopped on a flight to make it to Washington, DC for the debut.
It's pretty incredible that the two franchise cornerstones in Washington DC are both LSU Tigers and we'll probably see the pair attending each others games.
The Nationals threw Crews right into the fire batting him second in his Major League debut sandwiched between CJ Abrams and James Wood who join Crews in trying to turn around the Nationals. In his first at-bat, Crews flew out to Juan Soto who he hopes to replace as the cornerstone outfielder in DC.
He then led off the fourth inning where he drew a walk getting on base for the first time in his MLB career before striking out in the sixth. In the eighth inning, Crews grounded out to another former LSU Tiger DJ LeMahieu.
An early September faceoff between two of LSU's best
We typically get out Tiger vs Tiger matchups in the NFL where LSU has put loads of talent into the league. On the second weekend of September two of LSU's best will faceoff in Pittsburgh when the Pirates host the Nationals. Paul Skenes is in line to start meaning we'll get a matchup between Dylan Crews and Paul Skenes in their rookie season which may be worthy of taking a trip to Pittsburgh.
