Five Players to watch on the LSU Football Team's Defense vs South Alabama
Whit Weeks - Linebacker
This weekend will be LSU's first without Harold Perkins Jr after he tore his ACL against UCLA last weekend. The Tigers will likely return to a ton of two linebacker formations which means we'll see a ton of Whit Weeks next to Greg Penn III. When Weeks has gotten extended playing time, he's looked great at his speed jumps off of the film.
The Tigers desperately need to create negative plays on defense and Whit Weeks could be one of the key pieces in this defense taking the next step. In many ways, the Tigers are getting with they wanted from Perkins in Whit Weeks as he's a more traditional linebacker with explosive speed.
Bradyn Swinson - Edge Rusher
At this point, Bradyn Swinson is arguably the most must watch player on the LSU Football team. Through four games, Bradyn Swinson has recorded five sacks and two forced fumbles all of which have come in the last two games. The massive games have won Swinson back to back SEC Defensive Lineman of the Week Awards.
As Harold Perkins is done for the season a new game wrecker is rising in Bradyn Swinson. In a game like this, Swinson should be dominant against players that are a notch below him and haven't seen a player as talented as him. If opposing offenses have to start using tight ends to help on Swinson, it becomes one less receiver the secondary has to worry about.
Major Burns - Safety
While Major Burns hasn't been the best player at LSU, his struggles could be blamed on how often he's being moved around. When LSU has gone with three linebackers, Burns has either come off the field or was bumped back to safety. As the Tigers are without Harold Perkins, we'll likely see a ton of Major Burns at the star position this weekend and going forward. This is the position Burns is best suited to play especially if Blake Baker gets aggressive with allowing him to blitz.
