Former LSU Baseball Star Paul Skenes set to make his MLB Debut this weekend
After one of the best seasons for a college pitcher LSU Ace Paul Skenes went first overall in the MLB Draft to the Pittsburgh Pirates and the question immediately became how soon will we see Skenes at the big league level. Many fans thought Paul Skenes would make the roster to start the MLB season as Skenes dominated in his lone Spring start pitching three innings allowing just one run on one hit with three strikeouts.
Instead, the Pirates opted to send Skenes to Triple-A for him to work on his game and the results were incredible. In seven starts, Skenes has a 0.99 ERA through 27.1 innings while striking out 45 of the 105 batters he faced.
The Pirates have now announced that Skenes will make his MLB Debut against the Chicago Cubs on Saturday. The Debut of Skenes will be one of the most highly anticipated MLB Debuts similar to that of Stephen Strasburg.
After a solid start to the season, the Pirates have struggled as of late falling to 17-21 putting them 5.0 games back for the lead in the National League Central. The Pirates are forming a solid young rotation as Skenes will join rookie phenom Jared Jones, Mitch Keller, and Bailey Falter. If Skenes can pitch at a high level with the Pirates, the team may have a serious chance to win the division as they'd have one of the best rotations in the National League.
What to expect from Paul Skenes
The MLB Debut of Paul Skenes will bring loads of excitement as baseball's top prospect arrives in the big leagues. If Skenes struggles at first, you can't give up on him or be surprised as he's pitched so few innings at the minor league level. If Skenes starts off on the right foot, he can continue his run toward the National League Rooke of the Year. The Cubs will provide Skenes with a tough matchup with such a deep lineup but, we'll all be excited to tune in for Skenes.
