It's no secret that the LSU Tigers' defense was an utter disaster in 2023 which cost the team in every one of its losses. The defensive struggles started with misusing Harold Perkins Jr. which in part cost Matt House his job.
Heading into the 2024, season new defensive coordinator Blake Baker will have an incredible weapon to deploy in Harold Perkins Jr. He spoke on how he likes his new fit in Baker's defense saying the following:
"I really like the role they got me doing. A lot of stuff, and I am excited about it. More in the box playing Will, being around everything or right in the mix of it. I love the transition. I feel like Coach Baker knows how to relate to his players. His scheme fits the defense, and I'm excited to see where we're going to go."

If the LSU defense is going to bounce back it'll start with how Harold Perkins Jr is deployed. As a freshman Perkins was a true game-wrecker for the Tigers while he saw a dip in production in 2023 due to the defensive scheme. The hiring of Baker will result in a big step up for Perkins and the defense should hopefully bounce back in a big way.
