The LSU Football team is in the win column, defending Tiger Stadium with a win over Nicholls State. The offense was impressive in ways while the defense still has plenty of work to be done. Here are the players on each side of the ball that impressed the most/

Offense - Garrett Nussmeier

It’s tough to find any flaws in Garrett Nussmeier’s game against Nicholls State. Nussmeier was 27 for 37 passing for 302 yards and six touchdowns all while LSU rotated players at the skill positions. Through two games it’s become clear that Nussmeier has clearly cut down on his risky throws as he continues to keep the ball out of harms way.

Defense - PJ Woodland

It’s hard to pick anyone on LSU’s defense after their performance against Nicholls State. The one player worthy of a nod is freshman cornerback PJ Woodland. Woodland was impressive again forcing LSU’s only turnover while also recording one of the Tigers only tackles for a loss. If I’m coaching the defense, Woodland is continuing to see reps going forward as it’s impressive how quickly he moves on from a mistake.

Special Teams - Zavion Thomas

How incredible does it feel that we don’t have to hold our breath every time the ball is in the air on kicks? Through two games Zavion Thomas has been a massive bright spot as he continues to make big play after big play in the return game. It’s hard to put into words how dominant Thomas has been so we’ll let the numbers speak for themselves.
