How LSU Football's 2021 Signing Class has fared entering their Senior Season
Malik Nabers- Wide Receiver
Looking back at the rankings, the one player most recruiting outlets got wrong was Malik Nabers. As a recruit Nabers was ranked as the 19th ranked receiver in the class and the 150th player overall. In LSU's signing class, Nabers was ranked as the team's fourth-best receiver. Nabers was the highest-selected player at the position in this past draft class and of the players ranked ahead of him only Brian Thomas Jr and Xavier Worthy were selected in the first round. Nabers was a massive success for LSU becoming a first-round pick after recording 3,003 yards and 21 touchdowns in his LSU career.
Garrett Nussmeier - Quarterback
Garrett Nussmeier would have been the most likely candidate to transfer in this class when Brian Kelly brought in Jayden Daniels however, he's stayed and is now poised for a breakout season. Through three seasons Nussmeier is 129-219 passing for 1,720 yards with 11 touchdowns and 7 interceptions. This season will prove how big of a success Nussmeier has been at LSU but, with the keys to the offense this LSU offense may be one of the best in America.
Bryce Langston - Defensive Line
The LSU Football team landed Langston as one of the top recruits in the state of Florida as a recruit. Langston was with LSU from 2021 through 2023 appearing in just four games recording three tackles and half of a sack. After the 2023 season, Langston entered the transfer portal returning back home to Florida committing to FAU.
Matthew Langlois - Safety
Matthew Langlois was another key special teamer for the LSU Football team as a true freshman. Ever since his freshman season, the Tigers haven't been able to see what Langlois can do as injuries have robbed him of his 2022 and 2023 seasons.
Zavier Carter - Outside Linebacker
While at LSU, Zavier Carter played for the Tigers in 2021 and 2022 as a rotational player recording nine tackles, a sack, and a forced fumble. Prior to the 2023-24 season, Carter entered the transfer portal landing at UNLV.
Greg Penn III - Linebacker
While LSU has the ability of freak athletes Harold Perkins and Whit Weeks at linebacker, the reliable play of Greg Penn III in the middle has been an asset. Penn became a full-time starter in 2022 and filled the role again in 2023 recording 166 tackles, four sacks, two interceptions, and a forced fumble over the past two seasons. Under new defensive coordinator Blake Baker, Penn should take a massive jump and the linebacker core may be the key to this defense's turnaround.
Corey Kiner - Running back
As a Freshman at LSU, Corey Kiner was actually impressive rushing for 324 yards and a pair of touchdowns. After the impressive 2021 campaign, Kiner transferred to Cincinnati where he's been impressive rushing for 1,047 yards and five touchdowns in 2023. It hurts LSU losing Kiner as he could've developed into something special behind this offensive line especially as there are depth concerns with the group heading into 2024.
