It's been a tale of two offseasons this year for former LSU Football teammates Ja'Marr Chase and Justin Jefferson. Justin Jefferson became the highest paid non quarterback this offseason with a massive four year $140 million dollar deal keeping him in Minnesota long term.

On the other hand, Ja'Marr Chase has missed most of the Bengals offseason program as he waits to land a contract extension. The Bengals not locking up Chase already doesn't make too much sense as he's clearly one of the top receivers in the league.

Rumors started to swirl that in Chase's contract he wanted to beat Jefferson's extension by a single penny this way he could have bragging rights over his good friend. On Friday, the media asked Chase about the rumors where he replied with a hilarious quote:

"If I want to beat Justin Jefferson, I'm going to beat the sh*t out of Justin. Not by a penny brother. "

Chase also told the media that he considered today the deadline for a contract extension as many players don't like to negotiate in season. Chase did give a reassuring answer to the Bengals fans who are worried about his long term future with the team.

"I love Cincinnati. I love teammates here. I love fans here. It’s a beautiful place to play."

The whole situation was handled by the Bengals

If Ja'Marr Chase does play this season without a new deal, he'll be playing without training camp reps and while we know he'll still be elite, players who have held out have said it's hurt their performance. If you're the Cincinatti Bengals, what's the best possible outcome? If Chase has a great season, they're going to have to pay him the money he wants and more while if he has a bad season, the Bengals don't win the Super Bowl. It's hard to understand the logic employed by the Bengals but, were excited to see Chase and Burrow on the field again.
