Kayshon Boutte's lack of usage in the preseason could lead to a dream LSU reunion
Last season, things were a nightmare for the New England Patriots, especially on offense. This led to Bill Belichick's firing while Mac Jones is now a backup in Jacksonville as the Patriots selected quarterback Drake Maye. The team now enters a new era with Jerod Mayo at the helm and General Manager Eliot Wolf pulling the strings.
The Patriots overhauled their receiving room this off-season, drafting several wide receivers and signing a few veterans in free agency. The Patriots selected receivers Ja'Lynn Polk and Javon Baker while signing KJ Osborn to join the returnees Kendrick Bourne, Pop Douglas, and Tyquan Thronton.
This created trouble for former LSU Football star Kayshon Boutte as he seemignly fell out of favor. Entering camp it seemed that Kayshon Boutte was fighting for his job after catching just two passes for 19 yards in 2023. This preseason Boutte looked awesome in the first two games, catching six passes for 76 yards.
The troubling part is what happened in the preseason finale as Boutte was fighting for a roster spot playing in the game. Boutte looks to be on the outside looking in for the Patriots and he didn't see any playing time in the first half while every receiver he's seemingly competing against caught a pass. In the second half, Boutte was targeted once by Joe Milton but, finished with no catches.
Given how the game played out and the new regime in the front office it seems that Kayshon Boutte is most likely going to be cut. The new front office drafting two receivers certainly hurt as those guys were never going to be cut even if they played horribly.
The team that should sign Kayshon Boutte if he's cut got to face him on Sunday Night as the Commanders faced the Patriots. The Commanders have issues at wide receiver which has seemingly gotten worse as the team traded away former first-round pick Jahan Dotson. The team has been eyeing a trade fro Brandon Aiyuk to reunite him with Daniels but, they could do the same thing by signing Kayshon Boutte.
In 2022, Jayden Daniels joined the LSU Tigers and built a connection with Kayshon Boutte who caught 48 passes for 538 yards and two touchdowns. As things currently stand, the Commanders are desperately trying to find a receiver to fill starting roles, and adding a player Daniels is familiar with would only benefit his development.
Other great potential landing spots for Kayshon Boutte
If Boutte does hit the waiver wire, there a ton of great potential landing spots for a receiver with his skill set. The Miami Dolphins jump out as a great landing spot as Mike McDaniel continues to prove he's the best play caller in the NFL. Another great team in his division is the Buffalo Bills who will have a very unproven receiver core after losing Stefon Diggs and Gabe Davis this off-season. We wouldn't mind seeing him team up with Malik Nabers or Brian Thomas Jr again either.
