The LSU football team returned to the practice field on Thursday as the season was officially one month away. There was plenty to watch for but, one of the main things to watch for was if some of the players continued their development from the Spring.

One of the players that stepped up the most this Spring was wide receiver Kyren Lacy as he began building a solid relationship with Garrett Nussmeier. Last season as the third target at receiver Lacy hauled in 30 catches for 558 yards and 7 touchdowns. One of the things LSU will need if the offense is going to be explosive is for Lacy to develop into a true top receiver.

On Day One of Summer camp, Kyren Lacy showed everyone exactly what they we’re looking for. By all accounts, Lacy was dominant making contested catches while beating man coverage and double teams looking like the next first round receiver out of LSU.

Brian Kelly spoke on Lacy’s development after practice saying the following:

"Most of his growth has been by virtue of him being the guy. Nabers is gone. Brian Thomas is gone. He’s the veteran player. Some times that happens with attrition. I would say that he embraced that. Some guys don’t embrace that, but he does. He wants to live up to that standard. I’ve seen a great deal of growth."

Lacy could form the next great duo

In the recent seasons, we’ve seen duos carry the load receiving from Odell Beckham Jr and Jarvis Landry to Justin Jefferson and Ja’Marr Chase to Malik Nabers and Brian Thomas Jr. This season if Lacy takes the lead LSU has several candidates that can carry the load alongside him with Mason Taylor, CJ Daniels, Chris Hilton, and others who will prove themselves in camp.
