The LSU Baseball team entered Saturdays game with a chance to advance to the SEC Tournament final after entering the tournament as an NCAA Tournament Bubble team. The Tigers faced off against the South Carolina Gamecocks who they came back against on Thursday Night.

Early on, the LSU Baseball team had nothing going for them as the Gamecocks dominated early taking an 8-0 lead. The Tigers slowly chipped away thanks in part to scoring six runs in the fourth inning. The Tigers would claw their way back to down 10-9 heading into the ninth inning.

The LSU Tigers headed to the ninth trailing by a run with the bottom of the order headed to the plate. After a leadoff double, Alex Milazzo made a perfect bunt causing the Gamecocks to throw away the ball which tied the game and put Milazzo on second. Michael Braswell III drew a walk putting two on before Jared Jones advanced Bingham on a sac fly. The Tigers however couldn’t bring home the winning run from second despite having three outs to do so.

Things got dicey withe two out in the tenth causing Jay Jackson to turn to Griffin Herring which didn’t matter as South Carolina stole home with an initial out call then nearly two minutes later ruled the runner safe due to a balk and interference. In the current era where nearly everything is reviewable, it’s shocking and frustrating that the play wasn’t reviewable especially in such a massive spot. The game then took 18 minutes to resume a terrible look for SEC officiating.

All the drama did not matter as Steven Milam crushed a walk off home run to send LSU to the SEC Championship in one of the most dramatic games in a long time.

LSU Tigers keep fighting to stay alive

The Tigers were resilient all day scoring 6 of their ten runs with two outs. When this game stretched to 8-0 LSU could’ve easily packed it in and given up with the NCAA Tournament now in their pocket. Instead this team now heads to the SEC Final, something that seemed impossible just over a month ago.
