The 2024 MLB Draft kicked off Sunday Night and while the 2023 Draft was an LSU Celebration with Paul Skenes going first and second overall the 2024 Draft was more a wait and see night for LSU Baseball. The first round of the MLB Draft kicked off in spectacular fashion as the LSU Tigers learned that William Schmidt a projected first-round pick would be pulling out of the draft and attending LSU. All eyes then turned to where LSU third baseman Tommy White would be drafted for LSU fans.

It felt like it took forever to hear Tommy White's name called but, he finally came off the board 40th Overall when he was selected by the Oakland Athletics. It comes as a shock that Tommy White fell outside of the first round and feels very similar to the 2020 NFL Draft when four wide receivers were selected ahead of Justin Jefferson.

White lands in Oakland for now until the team most likely ends up in Las Vegas as they actively push for relocation. The biggest positive for Tommy White is that he has the chance to fly through the Oakland A's system and potentially make the MLB early.

The Oakland A's get an absolute stud in Tommy White

White will go down as one of the greatest players in LSU Baseball's history helping the Tigers win the 2023 College Baseball World Series. In his college career, White finished with a .355 batting average with 75 Home Runs, 249 RBIs, and 48 doubles across three seasons. The accolades for White are off the charts with a College World Series, two consensus All-American Seasons, a Second-Team All-American selection, and a selection to the All-NCAA Tournament Team.
