LSU Basketball star Skylar Mays is heading to Minnesota reuniting with Naz Reid
While we are all focused on College Football and the NFL Season, the return of the NBA is right around the corner. We're a little over a month away from the tip off of the NBA season and NBA camp begins on October 1st for nearly every team in the NBA. Teams are making final roster moves these next few weeks to fill out their teams before kicking off the season.
One of those teams is the Minnesota Timberwolves fresh off of a Western Conference Finals appearance. Today, the Minnesota Timberwolves signed former LSU Basketball star Skylar Mays to a deal.
Mays heads to Minnesota where he'll be reunited with his former LSU Basketball counterpart Naz Reid. The duo played together on the 2018 LSU Basketball team where the Tigers went 28-7 and 16-2 in the SEC winning the regular season title and making a run to the Sweet Sixteen.
During their one season together, Mays averaged 13.4 points per game with 2.1 assists per game and 1.9 steals per game while Reid averaged 13.6 points per game with 7.9 rebounds per game.
Mays has NBA experience as he's appeared in 105 games between the Atlanta Hawks, Portland Trail Blazers, and the Los Angeles Lakers. He performed his best in extended playing time for the Trail Blazers appearing in six games playing 31 minutes per game averaging 15.3 points per game and 8.3 assists per game while shooting 46% from three.
The Timberwolves have a loaded roster but, if Mays can get extended playing time he's proven that he can be an effective player in the NBA. Having one of his former teammates on the roster should help as well as he'll have some built in chemistry.
