Career tackles: 133 Career interceptions: 4
Tyrann Mathieu’s career at LSU was short-lived, but there was nobody like the Honey Badger at his peak. Mathieu was dismissed from the team after his sophomore season for violating the team’s substance abuse policy, but that sophomore season was electric enough to land this top spot.
Mathieu finished as a Heisman Trophy finalist in 2011 as a free safety and punt returner. He made 76 tackles that season, 7.5 for a loss, 1.5 sacks, two interceptions, 9 pass breakups, six forced fumbles, five fumble recoveries, and two scoop and score touchdowns. He also returned 27 punts and averaged 15.6 yards per return with two return TDs.
His peak in 2011 was higher than any other player in the Les Miles era, and there may not be a more fun player in college football history to watch YouTube highlights of than the Honey Badger.
