The LSU Football team had a massive need at defensive tackle heading into the Spring Transfer portal window but, also several other small needs one of which is a punter. Peyton Todd was heading into the season as the team's punter however, some issues with consistency caused concern especially from Brian Kelly.

Kelly spoke on Todd's performance in the Spring Game saying the following:

"Not as consistent as I would like, I thought today was an opportunity for him to just say "There is no competition here" and he's got to be more consistent quite frankly."

The LSU Football team explored landing a punter this Spring and have now finally added a punter making the position a camp battle to watch. LSU has brought in Louisiana Tech Punter Blake Ochsendorf. In 2023, Ochsendorf punted 53 times for 2,423 yards averaging 45.7 yards per punt with a season long of 70 yards.

For his efforts, Ochsendorf led Conference USA in punting average and ranked in the top 20 nationally.

The Tigers will now have an open competition this Spring at the punter position between Peyton Todd and Blake Ochsendorf. The competition will either elevate Peyton Todd's game to the level where LSU would like him to be or give the team a more reliable option in Ochsendorf.

Smart use of available scholarships

The LSU Football team now has addressed a position that could have been an issue in the upcoming 2024-25 season. The LSU Football team didn't land as many defensive players as they hoped for this Spring but, it left the team with additional scholarships. This Summer, the Tigers will now have a competition at the punter position rather than rolling the dice at the position which is the right approach.
