LSU Football could add a fourth five star commit today as well as an in-state corner
As things currently stand, the LSU Football program enters the week with the Nation's third-ranked recruiting class with 24 commitments. The Tigers have three five-star commitments according to On3's Industry recruiting rankings trailing only Ohio State and Alabama who hold four five-stars. The Tigers could enter a tie with the Tide and Buckeyes today when one of two Tigers targets announce their commitment.
Five-Star Safety and Two Sport star Jonah Williams is set to announce his commitment at 6:30 Central Time. Three of the four major recruiting services tab Williams as the top safety in the class while rivals has him as an outside linebacker. On the baseball field, Williams is an incredible pitcher hitting 94 MPH in July.
The Tigers have been recruiting Williams longer than most of the programs in the finalists. For a long time, this recruitment felt like it was between LSU and Texas A&M but, when the A&M baseball staff left for Texas the Longhorns emerged. It felt like LSU was in a great place before Bayou Splash but, Williams never made it to Baton Rouge.
Most of the recruiting experts are picking Texas but, anything can happen and if its not Texas it feels like it'll be LSU. The same experts also projected DJ Pickett going to Miami and Oregon before he committed to LSU. After Texas missed out on some of the biggest in-state recruits it seems like they won't be denied for Williams but, don't count LSU out.
The Tigers should pick up another commitment however when Louisiana Native Aidan Anding announces his commitment. The Tigers are finalists alongside the Texas Longhorns and Arkansas but, the Tigers are seemingly the team to beat. LSU has been dominant in recruiting in-state and given the fact that LSU's push got Anding to push his recruitment back when he appeared heading to Texas the pick here is LSU.
Defensive back class is shaping up incredibly thus far
Whether or not LSU lands Williams this defensive class is incredible for LSU's defensive back rebuild. Landing Anding would give LSU three commits at cornerback with Kade Phillips and DJ Pickett and while Anding is currently a three-star recruit, he'll finish as one of the top cornerbacks in this class. Landing Williams would put this class in another stratosphere as LSU would land the top safety and cornerback in the first recruiting class with the new staff.
