While LSU didn't expect to add offensive talent in the Spring Transfer Window the agenda may have changed

When the LSU Football team ended Spring Practice, Brian Kelly made one thing clear to the media which was that the LSU Football team was only pursuing defensive line depth in the transfer portal.

"I don't see any positions that we need to be in the transfer portal for other than the defensive tackle position."

Brian Kelly

This sentiment may have changed however with the latest development in the case of Trey Holly who pleaded not guilty in court on Tuesday and was given a July 3rd date for a status conference. The LSU Football program expected this issue to be resolved sooner as Brian Kelly said himself. Holly and the Tigers are now cutting it close for Holly to be reinstated for Summer Workouts and practice.

The Tigers are seemingly pursuing potential back-up plans as Brian Kelly and the LSU Football team have reached out to Louisville and Toledo Running Back Peny Boone. Boone rushed for 1,400 yards and 15 touchdowns last season adding 219 yards and a touchdown receiving. Boone ranks as the third ranked transfer in the portal and the second ranked running back.

The decision to pursue help at the running back position is the right move by Brian Kelly and the coaching staff. It's better to have too many running backs than not enough and it's the right decision to not gamble on Holly's court case being finished in time. The LSU Tigers would also be adding a high caliber player of they ended up adding Peny Boone who could provide an impact from day one.

The More weapons the merrier for LSU Football

The coaching staff and the fanbase would much prefer that the team accumulated as many weapons as possible heading into the 2024 season. The entire offense at the skill positions will be stepping into new roles in 2024 and while many expect smooth transitions it's smarter to plan for the worst. If the Tigers don't get Trey Holly back in time it'll be great to have an experienced skilled back in Boone. Meanwhile if Holly is back the offense will have a stable of running backs to rotate through keeping everybody fresh down the stretch of the season.
