LSU Football eyeing yet another top ranked quarterback in 2026 recruiting class
The LSU Football team currently has a commitment from the Nation's top quarterback Bryce Underwood headlining its 2025 recruiting class. While landing a player of Underwood's stature may keep some programs from pursuing a top quarterback the following class it appears to be a non-issue for Brian Kelly.
The commitment of Underwood may also be a non-factor for 2026 Quarterback Faizon Brandon. Brandon is ranked as the top quarterback in the 2026 recruiting class by both On3 and 24/7 Sports while ranking as 24/7's top overall player and On3's 11th ranked player.
The Tigers hosted Brandon on a visit in April for a Spring Practice where he talked with offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Joe Sloan.
This week, on Joe Sloan's trip up the East Coast, he stopped in to visit Brandon in North Carolina. The Tigers will also get to host Brandon this summer as he plans a return trip to Baton Rouge in June. The key factor in landing Faizon Brandon will be Joe Sloan as he continues to build solid relationships with the players he recruits.
Landing Brandon would take the LSU Quarterback room from being in an incredible position to being in a nearly perfect situation. The 2026 quarterback is a dual threat quarterback with the perfect build to be a true pocket passer.
There are other schools that can offer Brandon a quicker path to playing early, but LSU's plan is likely better than what nearly any other school can offer him. Two of LSU's last three starting quarterbacks have won Heisman Trophies and went on to get selected in the top two picks of the NFL Draft.
This season could be massive for landing a quarterback like Brandon
This season, the play of Garrett Nussmeier may prove to a player like Brandon that sitting behind a great quarterback before taking the reins of the offense is the proper approach. While most players will like to get on the field as soon as possible Nussmeier will look to show that waiting your turn can also make you an elite NFL prospect. A great season by Nussmeier may also send him to the NFL opening the door for Bryce Underwood to start as a true freshman.
