Part of what makes College Football so fascinating is the consistent turnover on rosters compared to the NFL. If a college has a true difference maker you often only see that player for three seasons before they depart for the NFL or for a fourth season at most. Replacing one player that heads tot the NFL is hard, at defensive tackle LSU has to replace three NFL defensive tackles.

This spring, Maason Smith, Mekhi Wingo, and Jordan Jefferson all were selected in the NFL Draft dealing a blow to one of LSU's defensive strengths. This is in part why Brian Kelly brought Bo Davis back to Baton Rouge as LSU will need its younger defensive tackles to develop and fast.

LSU looked to the transfer portal for SEC Caliber defensive tackles but, they were only able to reel in Wisconsin's Gio Paez and Grand Valley State's Jay'viar Suggs.

This summer one of the biggest areas LSU fans were watching is defensive tackle where the Tigers faithful are hoping that someone would emerge as the top defensive tackle. Thus far this summer, Jacobian Guillory has been that player.

In 2023, as the fourth defensive tackle in the group Guillory contributed with 5 solo tackles and 26 combined tackles. This summer however, he's shown he's ready to lead the group as he's been a standout after nearly every practice.

The Tigers will desperately need improvements up front as the defense struggled at all three levels in 2023. If players like Jacobian Guillory can eat up blockers up front, the linebacking core has the talent to clean up any play in the run game.

The Tigers have the talent alongside Jacobian Guillory

Everyone was penciling in Guillory as defensive tackle one but, the Tigers will need another player to step up alongside him. The Tigers have two players with valuable experience in transfers Gio Paez and Jay'Viar Suggs and both have impressed this Summer. The player Tigers fans will want to see the most is five-star freshman Dominick McKinley who has bulked up since signing day and is earning first team looks this summer. The talent is in the room for the LSU Football team it will just be a matter of who steps up and earns the job.
