Entering this week, LSU had yet to land a commitment this summer in either it's 2025 or 2026 recruiting classes. The ball has gotten rolling this week however as Brian Kelly has landed two top 100 recruits in the 2025 recruiting class in Carius Curne and La Jessie Harrold and he's just landed his second recruit in the 2026 class joining Richard Anderson.

The LSU Football team has just landed a commitment from New Orleans Native Jakai Anderson.

At McDonogh 35, Anderson plays safety and wide receiver and considering he was recruited by Cortez Hankton he'll likely play the latter while at LSU. On3 ranks Anderson as a three-star recruit and as the 15th best player in Louisiana buy, they rank him as a safety. The LSU Football team now has two commitments in it's 2026 recruiting class both of which are Louisiana Natives.

Brian Kelly and his staff have been incredible with keeping elite talent at home which will be very important in the 2026 recruiting cycle. The state of Louisiana has arguably the best talent in the 2026 recruiting cycle with six top-100 recruits two of which are already ranked as five stars in Jahkeem Stewart and Lamar Brown.

The Tigers picking up commitments in the 2026 class early on is very important especially as the June 25th to July 25th recruiting dead period is right around the corner. The two commitments can now continue to push for other top talent in the 2026 class to join them in Baton Rouge.

Why Homegrown talent is the most important for LSU

While it's always nice to land a highly rated recruit out of another state especially an SEC Rivals state, it's best long-term to land talent from Louisiana. It's less likely that you'll lose a player who dreamed of wearing the purple and gold to the transfer portal and can also help with keeping costs low in this NIL era of college football. This staff has really drove home how important recruiting the boot is and it's paying off thus far.
