The LSU Football team just pulled off an absolute stunner on the recruiting trail landing five-star defensive back DJ Pickett over Oregon and Miami. Heading into tonight's commitment, LSU was seen behind Miami and Oregon however, the Tigers prevailed late. On3 ranks DJ Pickett as the top defensive player in the class and the third ranked player overall in this class.

The LSU Tigers now hold the top overall recruit and the top defensive recruit along with the top running back in Harlem Berry and the top interior offensive lineman in Carius Curne. Landing DJ Pickett takes LSU's recruiting class from fifth in the team rankings to third jumping Oregon and Georgia.

All of the credit for landing DJ Pickett belongs to cornerback coach Corey Raymond. Prior to Raymond's return to Baton Rouge, the Tigers were outside Pickett's top five but, his bond with Raymond put the Tigers in the race. LSU was able to get Pickett on campus five separate times on visits with Raymond bringing in Patrick Peterson for his official visit.

Landing Pickett also says a ton about where LSU's NIL fund is compared to the other National Powers. The Oregon Ducks reportedly have an unlimited NIL budget thanks to Nike's Phil Knight which means the Tigers certainly had to pony up a massive offer.

The LSU Tigers now have a star defensive talent to use in recruiting like they have had with Bryce Underwood and Harlem Berry. The Tigers will need to fend off Miami and Oregon over the months but, this is a massive get for the Tigers.

LSU should now surge with defensive recruits

Now that the LSU Football team has a star committed on the defensive side of the football recruitment should take off from here. This weekend, former LSU commit Jaboree Antoine will announce his commitment, and with Pickett on board the pair could become a foundational duo in the secondary for LSU. The Tigers sit third in the recruiting rankings but, they only have 17 players committed meaning this class could rise to the top ranking depending how this class finishes.
