LSU Football's Greg Penn will give an incredible tribute to Greg Brooks Jr in 2024

Every year there is one tradition that fans wait for at the start of August as two players get new numbers. The number 18 has ties to National Titles and embodying the spirit of being an LSU Tiger. The number 7 has been given to prolific playmakers while Brian Kelly has also spun it into a Louisiana award as well.

We’re all awaiting Brian Kelly decisions on who will get these numbers however, we will have a new number we hope becomes a yearly tradition.

Greg Brooks Jr was diagnosed with a rare form of brain cancer at the start of last year and has continued to battle becoming an inspiration. For the LSU Football team, Brooks wore number 3 becoming a favorite of his teammates and the fans.

LSU dedicated the 2023 season to Brooks as the team wore numbs 3 helmet decals while the team painted his number on the field.

This year LSU will have a new way of honoring Greg Brooks Jr as Greg Penn III will make the switch to number 3. Penn spoke on the move saying the following:

"Just being around Greg and being close to him I just really wanted to switch to his number and his family members I asked them about it and they said they’d be fine with it so I thought it was a good idea. They just said if anybody should wear it it should be you so I kind of felt honored by that so I made the choice to wear it."

This is an incredible way to honor Greg Brooks Jr and to keep him in everyone’s minds and prayers. The number three should become a tradition along with the number 7 and 18 as a way to keep Brooks' a part of the LSU Community.
