LSU Football Safety Ryan Yaites has entered the transfer portal
The LSU Football team has lost rising Sophomore Ryan Yaites to the transfer portal. As a true freshman Yaites appeared in every game as a special teamer and backup safety recording 16 tackles. As a recruit, Yaites was a four-star recruit as the 21st ranked safety and the 245th ranked player in the country.
The move comes as somewhat of a surprise as Yaites appeared in every game last season and likely would've seen an increased role on Special Teams and potentially defense. However, seeing the field at safety is going to be difficult as Major Burns and Sage Ryan returned and will likely start at safety for the LSU Tigers while Texas A&M Transfer Jardin Gilbert has been rotating in with the starters.
Also working against Yaites was incoming freshmen DaShawn McBryde and Joel Rogers both of whom were four-star recruits. McBryde has impressed this Spring in both pass coverage and tackling garnering high praise from Brian Kelly.
The transfer of Yaites certainly hurts as he was an effective special teamer and still had three years to crack the lineup as a starter. It's also possible that if Sage Ryan and Major Burns struggled that Yaites may have been one of the first players to get a crack at the starting lineup. The transfer of Yaites does, however, put LSU below the scholarship limit as they had 88 scholarship players three over the limit.
LSU Football: Time to bolster the defensive line
The LSU Football team had to suffer a few transfer losses this Spring regardless but, now they can officially start bolstering the defensive line. The Tigers have already offered scholarships to several defensive tackles with a few set to visit Baton Rouge this weekend. We'll likely see one or two additional players enter the transfer portal for LSU but, all of the core pieces appear to be staying at LSU which is a massive win in this era of college football.
