LSU Football takes a slide in both the AP Poll and the Coaches Poll
Week one wasn't what we all hoped for and unfortunately, the statistics about LSU in season openers will continue to circulate. The loss will sting but, given how USC looked on Sunday Night, the Trojans are a solid football team and a loss to USC won't look bad when it comes time for the committee to select the 12 teams for the College Football Playoff. The loss does mean that LSU will have to slide down in both the Coaches Poll and the AP Poll as they now have one loss.
The Tigers were named the twelth best team in the initial US LBM Coaches Poll which would mean they'd miss the College Football Playoff by one spot. After saturday's result, they slide down 7 spots to 19.
The Tigers are still right within striking distance of the Playoff at 19th and by the time they play their next ranked game against Ole Miss they'll have climbed a few spots.
The Tigers entered Sunday Night ranked 13th in the AP Poll, the USC Trojans now take the 13th ranking while LSU slides to 18th.
If you're looking for positives, LSU controls its own destiny as they'll face 15th ranked Oklahoma, 6th Ranked Ole Miss, and 4th ranked Alabama all in Tiger stadium which will give them the chance to rise back into the College Football Playoff conversation.
Week Two could provide LSU some movement
If LSU moves up in either poll this week it won't be because the Tigers impressed against Nicholls State. Third ranked Texas will travel to 10th Ranked Michigan, 16th ranked Oklahoma State will host Arkansas, 11th ranked Utah will host Baylor, and 14th ranked Tennessee will host 24th ranked NC State all of which could give LSU the chance to move up the rankings. If all goes well, by the time LSU faces Ole Miss, the Rebels will remain in the top 8 while LSU should be ranked near 15th.
