The quarterback torch in Baton Rouge has been passed from Jayden Daniels to Garrett Nussmeier. The Louisiana native has patiently waited his turn to lead the LSU football offense. Nussmeier heads toward Spring practices as the QB1, and the expectations couldn't be higher.

According to some preseason college football odds, the Tigers' new starting quarterback will succeed in 2024.

Nussmeier is currently +1800 to win the Heisman Trophy. The odds, released by Fanduel, capture 13 projected starting quarterbacks, of which LSU's signal-caller ranks No. 7. Ole Miss starting quarterback Jaxson Dart is tied with Nussmeier at +1800.

I have some questions regarding Fanduel's odds for the 2024 Heisman Trophy. For example, I'm not convinced that Will Howard is +1000 without playing a snap with Ohio State. Moreover, I don't think Tennessee's Nico Iamaleava is poised for a season worthy of +1500 odds.

I acknowledge the numbers are created by oddsmakers who seek to influence fans to spend money. Conversely, I will exercise any excuse to get excited about the 2024 LSU football season. As such, seeing Garrett Nussmeier's name among college football's top quarterbacks has me leaping off the couch.

Our team at Death Valley Voice has been on the "Nuss Bus" for over a year. So much so that one of writers professed his love for the Lake Charles (La.) native ahead of the 2023 season. Indeed, the article riled up all the fans who expected a Heisman Trophy-winning season from Daniels.

There's no debating who the clear No. 1 quarterback in Baton Rouge is now.

Several college football programs are experiencing quarterback depth chart changes in 2024, but LSU arguably has the most seamless transition. Nussmeier has appeared in 18 games for the Tigers, including the 2023 ReliaQuest Bowl.

His 395 yards and three touchdowns against Wisconsin were a nice glimpse into LSU football's future. Also, Nussmeier leading the Tigers on a game-winning drive that started at their five-yard-line was an indicator the Nuss Bus has plenty of clutch.
