Anyone who watched LSU play this season won’t be surprised that the team had three first-rounders on offense and none on the defensive side of the ball. I suspect that Smith will be the first of three LSU defensive linemen to be selected.
At 6-foot-6 315 pounds, Smith can clog up the middle for an opposing run game and he was also second on LSU’s defense in pressures this season with 23. Smith is more of a run defender than a pass rusher, but he finished 2023 with a 9.5% pass rush win rate, which was better than Mekhi Wingo’s 7.9%.
With Mike MacDonald in charge, the Seahawks will want to build up a defense like the one he had in Baltimore. That means adding depth up front and big bodies on the interior. Smith fits the mold, so I think Seattle will strike in the third round.
