LSU Tight end Mason Taylor's next catch will mark a few milestones
After catching the game winning two point conversion in LSU's upset win over Alabama as a True Freshman, Mason Taylor had already etched his name in LSU lure. Taylor could've disappeared for the rest of his career and his game winner would've still been a play that Tigers fans would've replayed over and over again.
Instead, Taylor has continued to prove himself as one of the best tight ends in the country and arguably LSU's most reliable pass catcher. After a disappointing Sophomore campaign as the team's third option behind Malik Nabers and Brian Thomas Jr, Taylor has started off 2024 on fire.
Through four games, Taylor has caught 25 passes for 237 yards and a touchdown averaging 59.25 yards per game. If you look at his career numbers, there's really no debate he's the greatest tight end in LSU history.
Taylor has the most receptions by a tight end in LSU history and the most yards by a tight end in LSU history.
Mason Taylor's next catch will set two milestones as long as he doesn't lose any yards as he'll likely record his 100th catch and 1,000th yard on the same play.
The best position under Brian Kelly
While some areas of the team have taken a dive under Brian Kelly compared to past regimes you can't say the same about the tight end position. Brian Kelly brought in Mason Taylor in his first signing class and he's quickly become one of the best in program history. Behind Taylor is Ka'Mourreun Pimpton and Trey'Dez Green two incredible young tight ends who may be the teams go-to targets next season. Slade Nagle has become an ace for LSU in recruiting and developing tight ends which has been massive for this offense's success.
