LSU Wide Receiver Khai Prean enters the transfer portal
The LSU Football team has seen its first player enter the transfer portal in wide receiver Khai Prean. The Redshirt Freshman receiver from Belle Rosa, Louisiana didn't see any playing time in 2023 after being a three-star recruit and the 17th-ranked player in the state. Prean entered the transfer portal with a no-contact tag meaning he's likely already picked out his destination with four years of eligibility remaining.
The move doesn't come as a shock as it was highly unlikely Prean would have played a massive role in 2024 with Kyren Lacy, Aaron Anderson, Shelton Sampson Jr and Chris Hilton Jr expected to see increased roles while newcomers Zavion Thomas and CJ Daniels are expected to start.
The LSU Football program entered the Spring Transfer over the 85 scholarship limit with 88 players on scholarship. Now after losing Prean and Jaxon Howard, the Tigers are just one scholarship over the limit. The Tigers will need to shed one more scholarship plus an additional scholarship for each additional player brought in via the transfer portal.
For Prean, he'll likely land at a program outside the SEC where he's likely to garner instant playing time. Tulane may be a likely destination where Prean's high school teammate Shazz Preston transferred to earlier this off-season. Prean did flash his abilities in the Spring Game with a 64 yard touchdown:
Don't be shocked by departures this Spring
Any players that enter this Spring transfer portal from LSU likely lost position battles and are looking for a school where they'll get to play. LSU needed to shed scholarship players this Spring especially as they look to bring in defensive line depth. Any of the names we'll see enter the Portal this Spring will either be younger players looking to get immediate playing time or second or third year players who have yet to climb the depth chart.
