Malik Nabers gets honor from family of Giants legend to wear a special number
All of the talk around New York has been about Malik Nabers as Giants fans are starting to realize how special the LSU Tiger is. This summer, Nabers has emerged as the most popular Giant however, jersey sales haven't reflected that. Giants fans and LSU fans have been holding off on ordering their Malik Nabers jersey's as he hadn't officially picked a jersey number yet. During camp, Nabers shared the number nine with Giants kicker Graham Gano but, Nabers had to pick a permanent number.
Nabers' LSU number 8 is taken by Giants quarterback Daniel Jones, his High School number 13 is taken by Jalin Hyatt, and the Giants had retired numbers 1, 4, 7, 10, and 11 all of which could've been in play.
Well, Malik Nabers got the nod from the family of Ray Flaherty who'll grant Nabers permission to wear number one.
This is an incredible honor from the Flaherty family and from the Giants to give their permission as Flaherty was the first player to have his number retired in the NFL. Flaherty was a three-time All-Pro, leading the NFL in receptions, yards, touchdowns, yards per reception, and yards per game in 1932 as an "end".
The Giants now hope that Nabers can be the receiving threat that Flaherty was from 1931-1935.
All that's left is the official NFL Debut for Malik Nabers
This summer, Malik Nabers has gone on a rapid ascent and is already being viewed as one of the best young receivers in the NFL. Nabers has done it all from his college career to the draft and to training camp and now, all that's left is his NFL Debut in just over a week. It'll be incredible to watch the start of Nabers career as he'll carry on the outstanding tradition of LSU wide receivers in the NFL.
