NCAA Basketball Insider Jon Rothstein projects LSU Basketball finishes in the bottom of the SEC
The College Basketball season is slowly approaching as we're 13 weeks away from the tip-off of the season. The transfer portal is closed and the incoming freshmen are all on campus meaning we can all begin predicting how every team will fair in 2024-25.
The LSU Basketball team is coming off of a 17-16 season where LSU missed the NCAA Tournament for the second straight season and lost early in the NIT Tournament. The Tigers will look to rebound in 2024-25 with what may be Matt McMahon's best roster yet, however, experts are indicating we shouldn't get our hopes up.
College Basketball Insider Jon Rothstein is among the group that believes the LSU Basketball team will suffer another shaky season.
In his SEC Offseason Breakdown, Rothstein had the LSU Basketball team finishing 15th in the SEC only beating out the Vanderbilt Commodores. His projected starters were Jordan Sears, Cam Carter, Tyrell Ward, Derek Fountain, and Jalen Reed.
Rothstein predicts that Vyctorius Miller will be one of the 15 most impactful freshmen in the SEC. Miller was ranked as the 56th best recruit in the country and the 15th best shooting guard in this past recruiting class.
The other player that received some props from Rothstein was incoming transfer Cam Carter who Rothstein put on his list of Under The Radar transfers. This past season at Kansas State Carter averaged 14.6 points per game, 5.0 rebounds per game, and 2.6 assists per game.
Where LSU Basketball will be better than expected
The LSU Basketball team will exceed expectations if this team relies heavily on shooting the three point shot. The Tigers return two 40% three point shooters in Tyrell Ward and Jalen Reed. Incoming transfers Jordan Sears and Dji Bailey have both posted seasons shooting above 40% from deep while the incoming class of Freshmen are known for their ability as shooters.
