The LSU Football team has been persistent in their search for defensive line reinforcements hosting top defensive tackles Simeon Barrow and Phillip Blidi with several visits planned in the week to come. One defensive line target has emerged however thanks to Bo Davis' Texas connections. Defensive linemen Zac Swanson has entered the transfer portal as a former top-60 recruit that was brought to Texas by LSU defensive line coach Bo Davis.

While Texas is now in the SEC meaning Swanson may have to sit out a year there's also a possibility that Swanson can play in 2024-25. The NCAA approved new transfer portal rules this week and Swanson may be able to petition to be able to play next season.

During his time at Texas, Swanson hasn't played much recording just one tackle during the 2022 season. If Swanson does have to sit out the 2024-25 season, he'll be viewed as a member of the 2025 recruiting class for Brian Kelly and the staff.

If LSU Football does pursue and land Swanson it'll likely be one of several additions to the defensive line room. The Tigers need to rebuild depth and add starting caliber players after losing Maason Smith, Mekhi Wingo, and Jordan Jefferson to the NFL Draft.

The Bo Davis effect

The hiring of Bo Davis this off-season may have been one of Brian Kelly's best moves as LSU's Head Coach. Davis has built connections everywhere coaching at Texas, Alabama, and made three stops in the NFL. Davis knows players across the country giving him a massive boost on the recruiting trail. Davis also knows what it takes for a defensive lineman to play in the NFL having coached there which should pay dividends in developing players and recruiting. We should see Davis become a key piece of LSU's staff as a recruiter as soon as in this transfer period.
