The LSU Tigers enter this season with an interesting set of expectations as the team enters the third season with Brian Kelly at the helm. The Tigers under Kelly, have had their highs playing in the SEC Championship in year one and with Jayden Daniels winning the Heisman in year two. LSU however, isn't a great moments school, it's a Championship School and the Tigers have yet to make the College Football Playoff under Brian Kelly.

If the LSU Football team doesn't make the College Football Playoff this season in the expanded format, some members of the media and in the fan base may start questioning if Brian Kelly is the man for the job. At SEC Media Day, Brian Kelly spoke on how he's done in pivotal year threes in his past coaching stops.

At the Division One level, all Brian Kelly has done is win football games in his third season at a new program. At Central Michigan, in year three the Chippewas went 9-4 winning the MAC Conference Championship. At Cincinnati, the Bearcats went 11-3 in Brian Kelly's third season winning the Big East which they followed up with a 12-0 season in Kelly's fourth year. At Notre Dame, in Brian Kelly's third season he led the Fighting Irish to the National Championship game going 12-1 with a loss to Alabama.

Why Brian Kelly's past success may not translate

While Brian Kelly has had massive successes in his third seasons at his past three stops it's hard to assume that it will apply at LSU. The LSU Football team fielded one of the worst defenses in College Football last season and the Heisman Quarterback that carried the team is now in the NFL. The SEC is a tougher conference than all of Kelly's past destinations which makes it more difficult to have a dominant season.
