Power Ranking the SEC after Lane Kiffin and Ole Miss get stunned and the Tide Rolls
This weekend was far and away the best we've had early on in this College Football season. Nearly every team in the SEC played and we had the big-time marquee matchup between Alabama and Georgia. This week had everything including a stunning upset, some wire-to-wire games, and arguably the craziest game of the season between Alabama and Georgia. After week five, here is how we Power Rank the SEC:
The Bulldogs didn't lose as badly as many would have expected against Texas on Saturday but, they still suffered a loss. It's tough to be hard on Mississippi State as Jeff Lebby took over a disaster but, you're still waiting for an impressive showing from the offensive guru.
Hugh Freeze spent this week under attack from former players and Auburn alumni while also saying that his team would've beaten Arkansas 9 times out of 10. The Tigers were in control on Saturday but, Hugh Freeze didn't believe in his quarterback handing the ball off on third down before missing a field goal leading to an Oklahoma touchdown. Then with a lead, he trusted his quarterback but, Payton Thorne threw a pick-six. This team isn't good, and at this point, they may not even qualify for a bowl game. Still lingering on the schedule are Georgia, Missouri, Kentucky, Texas A&M, and Alabama.
The best thing for Billy Napier is that he didn't play this weekend giving him at least one more week as Florida's head coach. Now Florida faces off against UCF who is coming off of a horrific loss to Colorado and it could give Napier the chance to get above .500. If you want to look on the bright side, Graham Mertz was impressive last weekend and if he can carry it over Florida could upset some teams down the stretch.
It seems that Sam Pittman is trying to beat out Billy Napier as the first SEC Head Coach to get fired this season. After a big win over Auburn last weekend, Arkansas followed it up by losing to Texas A&M while scoring only 3 points in the second half. The defense held Texas A&M below 300 yards yet, they still lost this game. The schedule doesn't get much easier as the Razorbacks have Tennessee and LSU next up on the schedule.
