Previewing LSU Football's Quarterback Room for 2024
Colin Hurley - Freshman
While all the talk heading into the 2025-26 season will be Bryce Underwood's arrival on campus, if Garrett Nussmeier leaves, Colin Hurley is highly talented himself. The LSU football team landed Hurley out of Florida as a four-star recruit as the 23rd ranked quarterback in the class and the 339th ranked player in the country.
Heading into the 2024-25 season, Hurley will likely redshirt as there are three quarterbacks ahead of him on the depth chart. When Hurley gets onto the field LSU fans will have a lot to be excited about as he has the arm talent to make every throw. The redshirt year however was almost a certainty as Hurley reclassified into the 2024 signing class getting to Baton Rouge at just 17 years old.
The Only Issue with LSU's Quarterback Room is:
There are plenty of reasons to believe that Garrett Nussmeier will become an elite quarterback but, there's one issue that LSU may have at quarterback. In 2023, Jayden Daniels led LSU in both passing and rushing with 1,134 yards. Even if Nussmeier matches Jayden Daniels' passing totals, with a depleted running back room the LSU football team will miss having a dual-threat quarterback. We may see the team use Rickie Collins in certain packages to help the rushing attack if the ground game struggles.
