The 5 Biggest Winners and Losers of Week Six in College Football: Upsets Everywhere
Winner: Ashton Jeanty's Heisman Campaign
As Jalen Milroe struggled at Vanderbilt, Carson Beck had a subpar game, and Nico Iamaleava and Tennessee got stunned one man became the front-runner for the Heisman. If you aren't aware of Boise State's Ashton Jeanty you need to go rewatch all of his games because we're witnessing history every week he plays.
On Saturday Night, Jeanty only played in the first half for the second time this season which should have put a dent in his production right? Wrong, Jeanty ran the ball just 13 times for 186 yards and recorded a hat trick with three touchdowns.
On the season, Jeanty has rushed for 1,031 yards and 16 touchdowns adding another 19 yards receiving. To put Jeanty's numbers into context, Barry Sanders had 1,002 yards through 5 games in 1988 on 130 carries. In 35 less carries, Jeanty is 29 yards ahead of Sanders' pace.
Loser: Tennessee
After Alabama suffered one of the weirdest losses of the season, Tennessee decided that misery loves company and decided to join the Tide. The Volunteers offense looked out of sync the entire night and it showed as they picked up just 332 yards on the game. Nico Iamaleava demolished any hopes of competing for the Heisman passing for just 158 yards completing just 17 of 29 passing attempts.
The Vols were shut out in the first, second, and fourth quarters scoring all 14 of their points in the third quarter. In the end of the game when Tennessee needed just one more stop, they allowed Arkansas to march right down the field without starting quarterback Taylen Green.
If Tennessee handled their business, they would have been in a great spot to compete for a chance to play in the SEC Championship Game as they would have been just one of four teams unbeaten in SEC play. Instead, the Vols will now have to win one of two games against Alabama and Georgia otherwise they could miss out on the playoff as a whole.
