The LSU Football team has established itself as a second half team
Through the first four games of the LSU season, it has felt like the games have all felt the same for the most part. We're often finding ourselves disappointed in the way that the Tigers start the game and are on the edge of our seats in the second half hoping for a turnaround. For the most part, the Tigers have come out of the locker room a whole new team in the second half of these games.
If you've felt that way about the Tigers in 2024, the stats certainly back you up as LSU has struggled mightily in first halves. The Tigers have been tied at halftime once, have been losing at halftime once, and have been winning at the half just once.
Through four games, the LSU Football team has just a +1 point differential over their opponents in the first halves of games. Against better competition, this would be perfectly fine but, LSU should've done much better against Nicholls State and UCLA while a better start against USC would've changed the game.
The Tigers have been a completely different team in the second half of games and its the reason why we've left games feeling okay with the team. The only second half that has been close was against USC where LSU lost in the second half. The Tigers have a +35 point differential in the second half of games beating everyone outside of USC by two scores in the second half.
What has to change so the Tigers can play a complete game?
Through four weeks, we haven't seen the LSU Football team play a complete game which is a concern heading into the heart of SEC play while it also should have fans excited to see what this team looks like at its best. Most of the changes from the first half to the second half have been defensively, so teams may just be playing LSU differently than they've played on film. Whether its changing the pre-game prep, starting more aggressive, or something else the Tigers need to make their strong finishes a full game trend.
