The Three Boldest takes for the LSU Football team in 2024
We're officially one week away from the kickoff of LSU Football's 2024 season against USC in Las Vegas. After the opening weekend of games took place, the excitement continues to build for this team as the Tigers have looked impressive this off-season. As the Tigers kick off the season, we wouldn't be surprised if these three bold takes came to fruition.
Kaleb Jackson wins the Doak Walker Award
The LSU Tigers were all over the preseason Award Watchlists but, the one they were missing from was the Doak Walker Award. In the committees defense, the Tigers don't return any rushers with significant experience but, with the strength of this offensive line an LSU running back will be right in the mix.
The issue with the running back group being snubbed is partially due to how good this offensive line is, as with any back running behind them you could easily see a back putting up a massive season. While Josh Williams will split carries with Kaleb Jackson its easy to see that Jackson is going to have a special season.
Coming into camp, Jackson bulked up to 235 pounds after coming to LSU around 215 pounds last year. Last season, Jackson showed he has massive power but, the added weight should make him even tougher to get in front of.
It comes as a surprise that Jackson didn't start to eat into the carries of Logan Diggs as he carried the ball 31 times for 165 yards and four touchdowns averaging a whopping 5.3 yards per carry.
Given Jackson's explosiveness and the benefit of running behind a group of maulers on the offensive line, it may not be too bold of a take that he'll win the Doak Walker Award. This is certainly a bold take when you consider that backs like Ollie Gordon, Omarion Hampton, and Quinshon Judkins are already presumed as massive frontrunners while a ton of backs made the Watchlist ahead of Jackson.
