The Tiger Stadium upgrades that LSU fans can expect in 2024
By John Fye
Tiger Stadium is the most incredible venue in North American sports. However, the home to LSU football needs to catch up on college stadium amenities in recent years. Such will change with Tiger Stadium’s 100th season.
The LSU Athletic Department announced several Tiger Stadium upgrades “including a new video board and lighting system, as well as other upgrades designed to enhance the game day experience.”
LSU has not articulated the exact upgrades, but I suspect they’ll announce each ceremoniously before the 2024 football season. I also suspect upgrades will include stadium concourse improvement, luxury suite enhancements, a new video board, and LED lighting.
One X (Twitter) user posted photo renderings of planned Tiger Stadium upgrades circa 2021. Indeed, the photos suggest upgrades are in store for concession areas and bathrooms.
The photo displaying fans in a standing-room-only area is intriguing. It would seem LSU will bring the seating capacity down to facilitate such but simultaneously increase the stadium’s max capacity via stadium room-only areas.
There will be a lot of centennial celebrations for Tiger Stadium in 2024. Death Valley will also welcome Oklahoma, UCLA, and Alabama as part of the LSU football schedule. I also suspect some potential in Kim Mulkey’s recent suggestion that the LSU women’s basketball team should play an outdoor game in Tiger Stadium.
Lastly, it would be neat if ESPN, fresh on their massive television contract with the SEC, produced a Tiger Stadium documentary.
Either way, there is nothing like a Saturday night down in Death Valley. Those Saturday nights in Tiger Stadium will be extra special in 2024.
