Three teams that should jump on the chance to sign Patrick Peterson
The NFL Preseason has officially gotten underway as nearly every team has played their first game. Joint practices, game performances, and injuries have certainly shaken things up within a few teams as their projected rosters have now taken hits. One free agent still on the market is former LSU Football star Patrick Peterson who could certainly help these three teams.
3. Minnesota Vikings
The Vikings are set to enter the season in arguably the most competitive division in football. The Vikings will face three high-powered offenses twice each season for the foreseeable future. The Vikings have already recognized a need to bulk up at cornerback as they're hosting Stephon Gilmore on a visit. If the Vikings don't sign Gilmore, Peterson is a serious candidate to return to Minnesota after spending 2021 and 2022 in Minnesota.
2. San Francisco 49ers
The San Francisco 49ers are coming off of a loss in the Super Bowl in a game that just slipped through their fingertips. The window is closing on the 49ers as their core is crumbling as contract extensions are due. The team took another hit in their first preseason game as starting cornerback Ambry Thomas broke his forearm which will keep him out for the start of the season.
The team is extremely thin at cornerback as either Isaac Yiadom or Rock Ya-Sin will have to fill the role. Patrick Peterson is the perfect candidate for the 49ers to replace Ambry Thomas. The team is strapped for cap space while Peterson will likely garner the veteran minimum. Peterson can perfectly hold down the position while the team awaits Thomas' return.
1. New York Giants
This off-season, the New York Giants went all in on their defense trading for edge rusher Brian Burns while allowing Saquon Barkley to leave in free agency. The area the Giants did take a hit at on defense was in the secondary where the team lost Xavier McKinney at Safety and Adoree Jackson at cornerback. The Giants head into the season with one set starter at cornerback in first-round pick Deonte Banks while former LSU Tiger Cordale Flott has earned reps starting on the opposite side.
The Giants should without a doubt sign Patrick Peterson prior to the start of the season. This would allow the younger cornerbacks like Flott and Dru Phillips further time to learn Shane Bowen's defense while also giving the team a stable force at cornerback. The Giants' front seven is too good to just roll the dice in the secondary and Peterson could help right away.
