The nominations for Award watchlists continue to roll in for the LSU Football team as the College Football season approaches. The Tigers have had nominees for nearly every award's watchlist with Will Campbell and Harold Perkins dominating the nominations.

Today, the Associated Press released their watchlist for the 2024 Comeback Player of the Year Award with 89 nominees from 67 schools. The award was started in 2018 and the LSU Tigers have never had a winner of the award despite three players winning each year.

The first player nominated from the LSU Football team was running back John Emery Jr. In November against Florida, Emery suffered a season ending injury ending his season after seven games. Emery entered the transfer portal this off-season but, decided to return to LSU. It will be hard for Emery to win the award in a crowded backfield but, he'll be a key piece of LSU's offense with his experience.

The other nominee from the LSU Football team is redshirt Junior defensive back JK Johnson. Last year, Johnson suffered an injury during training camp which kept him out for the entire season. We have yet to see Johnson in an LSU uniform but, he could be a key piece of rebuilding LSU's secondary as he's currently rotating in with the second team at cornerback.

Both players could be underrated pieces for the LSU Football team

Heading into the season neither player is expected to play a massive role but, they'll be needed pieces. In a younger LSU backfield, Emery's going to be a veteran leader while his ability as a pass blocker will be vital. On the defensive side, it is all hands on deck in the secondary after the disaster that was the 2023 defense. Johnson will be one of the pieces that contends for playing time while he certainly will see the field at some point.
