Where LSU Football stands with Spring Transfer Targets
As Brian Kelly alluded to all spring, the LSU Football team is heavily pursuing defensive linemen in the transfer portal. Luckily for Kelly, the defensive tackle position has seen the most entrants into the transfer portal giving the team plenty to choose from. The Tigers have scheduled visits and offered scholarships to a few defensive linemen while showing interest in a few other positions.
Philip Blidi - Defensive Tackle - Indiana
The LSU Tigers hosted Philip Blidi on a recruiting visit for the Spring Game making a seemingly strong impression on Blidi. It seemed that Auburn and Oklahoma were the front-runners for Blidi but, Blidi canceled his trip to Norman this weekend putting LSU in a great spot to land one of the top defensive linemen in the portal. Blidi recorded 30 tackles and a pass deflections for Indiana in 2023.
Bryce McFerson - Punter - Notre Dame
LSU has had an issue with punters this Spring as Peyton Todd has seemingly struggled since getting on campus. Kelly spoke on the team's punting issues saying the following:
"He's long, got all the tools. He's a classic case of today. You've got 14 practices. You look great, and today the ball was wobbling. It was not what I was looking for, nor was it what he's looking for, either. He's a great kid, but look, this is about performance on Saturdays and he's got to do a better job."
- Brian Kelly
The LSU Football program is targeting one of Brian Kelly's last recruits he brought to Notre Dame in punter Bryce McFerson who averaged 45.1 yards per punt on 38 punts.
Simeon Barrow Jr - Defensive Line - Michigan State
Former Michigan State Defensive tackle is the most sought-after player in the transfer portal hearing from 27 schools. The Tigers will seemingly get the first crack at Barrow Jr as they'll host Barrow on a visit on Sunday. Barrow had 36 tackles, 3.5 sacks, and a forced fumble in 2023.
Damonic Williams - Defensive Line - TCU
The TCU Horned Frogs transfer defensive tackle is one of the best players in the transfer portal, being named to the Freshman Big 12 team and received All Big-12 honorable mention in 2023. Williams recorded 33 tackles and 3 sacks in 2023. Brian Kelly and the coaching staff will host Williams on a two-day visit starting April 30th and it could be a massive addition for Brian Kelly for the 2024 season.
CJ West - Defensive Line - Kent State
The Kent State defensive tackle was one of the first entrants into the transfer portal nearly immediately getting an offer from LSU. West was named to the All-Mac team in 2023 and will be a top target for Brian Kelly but, there's no official visit planned yet.
LSU Football exploring all options
The LSU Football team is truly exploring all options at most positions in the transfer portal. The coaching staff has started exploring options at running back reaching out to Peny Boone after Trey Holly's latest update. The transfer portal entries are seemingly slowing down so we'll start to see more official visits planned to Baton Rouge in the coming days.
