Why are Texas A&M fans smack-talking LSU football fans?
By John Fye
Earlier in the week, 2024 five-star recruit Terry Bussey of Timpson (Tex.) opted to honor his commitment to Texas A&M despite a strong push by LSU football. Suddenly, Aggies' fans took to social media with the collective attitude of a perennial College Football Playoff contender.
Texas A&M football is paying Jimbo Fisher $75 million to stay home. The program has one double-digit win season in 24 years, has never appeared in the College Football Playoff, and has never won the SEC. The last time "Aggies" and "national championship" occurred in the same sentence was in 1939.
So, what's all the smack talk about?
Several LSU football fans are locking horns with trash-talking Texas A&M fans on social media. Heck, Sherman Wilson went back and forth with TexAgs.com's Billy Liucci for a few posts. Liucci made his typical, snarky tweet demeaning the Tigers' 2024 recruiting class, and Wilson rightfully fired back.
Of course, Liucci eventually downplayed the exchange as playful banter between rivals. However, we know it was a cop-out response after defeat. Let us remember Liucci's recent comments regarding LSU football.
"I don't like LSU. I don't like the way they…attempt to tamper with the A&M roster. I don't like a lot of things about LSU…I don't like Brian Kelly. I don't like the way they operate. "
- Billy Liucci, TexAgs.com
Of course, Liucci's attitude toward the Tigers continues to rile both sides of the rivalry. But what's ridiculous regarding the dynamic are the Aggie fans that flame in and out as if their program is up and looking down. Such an attitude is as odd as adults watching college kids in overalls, telling awful jokes while executing weird choreographed dances in the middle of the night.
The bottom line is Texas A&M has an inferiority complex toward LSU football that reeks. The Aggies haven't made any noise in college football since Johnny Manziel's freshman season, and it kills them. They want to be the toast of Texas in the worst way, but it's not happening. Meanwhile, Brian Kelly has the Tigers on the cusp of supplanting Alabama as the SEC West juggernaut.
Indeed, it must suck to know TCU is the more accomplished college football program in Texas in recent history. That's not LSU's fault, so pipe down Texas A&M fans and settle into the 8-4 lifestyle you deserve.
